Dr. J's Best Man - Willie Sojourner
A little bit of trivia for you guys. Who gave Julius Erving the nickname Dr. J? Well it’s been credited to his ABA teammate Willie Sojourner. Willie was the 2nd player included in the 1973 trade that sent Julius from the Virginia Squires to the New York Nets for George Carter & $$$. That ‘73-’74 season Willie averaged about 6 points a game along with 4 rebounds for the Nets who would go on to win it all. More about Willie & his Weber State days in a future post. Stay Tuned.
