Hawk walked the 90 ft to 1st twice in the first nine innings and three times in extras. The record fifth and final free pass came in the bottom of the 16th where the next batter, Dave Clark, hit a bases loaded single to drive in the winner. Cubs walk-off win 2-1.

On This Day - Ralph Garr's Extra Inning Heroics
May 17th, 1971
As a member of the Atlanta Braves the man they call the ‘Roadrunner’ Ralph Garr hit two extra innings home runs in a game against Tom Seaver and the New York Mets . In the tenth inning Garr hit a two out homer off Seaver to tie the game at 3. And then in the bottom of the 12th, he hit another two out solo homer for the walk-off victory!!

Sammie Smith lasted only 3 years with the Dolphins after they selected the former FSU Running Back 9th Overall in 1989. He was pretty much run out of town during the 1991 season when he had fumbles at the goal line in back to back games. I can remember kinda feeling bad for they guy when everybody started chanting ‘Sammie Sucks’ Happy Birthday Sammie! Hope all is well.
On This Day - Nick Van Exel for Three !!
May 16th 1995 - Game 5 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers & San Antonio Spurs. Nick Van Exel buries a 3 pointer with .3 seconds left in OT to give the Lakers a 98-96 win on the road. Nick the Quick also sunk a three at the end of regulation to force overtime. The Spurs would go on to win the next game and series 4-2.

UF era Emmitt Smith was the coolest!! With almost 1600 yds rushing and 14 TD’s, The Pensacola Prophet was An Unanimous First Team All American in 1989. He would forgo his Senior season to enter the NFL Draft. 1990 was the first year underclassmen were allowed to be drafted without some kind of exemption. Emmitt was selected with the 17th pick by the Dallas Cowboys. Happy Birthday Emmitt!

R.I.P. - Rodney Culver Amongst Victims of Valujet Flight 592 Crash
Today we’re remembering RB Rodney Culver, his wife Karen, & the 108 other members aboard Valujet Flight 592 which crashed into the Florida Everglades on May 11th, 1996. Rodney was a captain at Notre Dame & part of their ‘88 Championship team, and the almost Championship season of ‘91. The 12th and final touchdown of his short, 4 year, pro career was during the Infamous ‘Snowball Game’ between the San Diego Chargers & New York Giants on December 23rd, 1995.

May 4th, 1975 - Bob “Bull’ Watson is credited with scoring Major League Baseball’s One Millionth Run. Bob had to hustle from 2nd base on a three run homer by teammate Milt May to capture the record. Apparently at the same time, 12:32 pm, Davey Concepcion of the Cincinnati Reds had homered at Riverfront Stadium in Cincy and scored just seconds behind Bull.
